Must Visit Castles in the Philippines
(Jovy Avisado-Estepa/ Dec 7, 2016)
As a child, we all have dreamt of our own fairy tales – living in a castle, being rescued by a prince or save a damsel in distress, and live happily ever after. If you’re game to chase your childhood fantasies, you don’t have to fly out of the country. Aside from beautiful beaches, the Philippines is also home of beautiful castles! Here’s a list of amazing castles that you must visit:
1. Fantasy World, Lemery Batangas
Fantasy World would have been our local Disneyland filled with fun rides and entertainment. Due to some circumstances, this would-be theme park ceased to fulfill its dream. (Well, everything happens for a reason, right?) Now, this medieval themed castle is a perfect location for photo-ops, pre-nuptial photo shoots, a picnic destination for families. Plus, being situated on top of a hill, the castle offers a great view of Taal Lake.
2. Riverstone Castle, Argao Cebu
Who could imagine that aside from awesome falls, a charming castle lurks in Cebu? (Now this gets pretty interesting). Riverstone Castle is a fairy tale-inspired resort complete with drawbridge, towers, torture chamber and more! It’s also a great location for some cool social-worthy shots.
3. Tropicana Castle Dive Resort, Puerto Galera
Take your Puerto trip to the next level at this castle-resort. Feel like a royal on your next vacay as this resort overlooks the powdery sand beach of Sabang!  Tropicana Castle Resort promises an exotic island experience with its state-of-the-art and spacious hotel rooms.
4. Shrine of Simala, Cebu
The Shrine of Simala, or also known as, the ‘Castle of Faith’, is one of the most popular landmarks in Cebu. This European-styled, castle-like church attracts a great number of tourists every year. There are surrounding cottages for families who wanted to enjoy their lunch while admiring the structure.
5. The Ruins, Talisay City, Bacolod
The Ruins in Talisay has a long story to tell. Dubbed as “the Taj Mahal of Negros’’, the grief-stricken Don Mariano Lacson built a mansion as a symbol of his love to his deceased wife, Maria Braga. However, it was burned down during the Japanese occupation to prevent it from being used as a garrison. Trivia: the couple’s initials M and M are molded onto the mansion’s posts.
