Go Loco in Antipolo!
Story by: jovy avisado ( Member ) on 2016-10-17
If you want to unwind at the countryside but you don't like to miss the bustling lifestyle in the city, then you should try going to Antipolo City. Antipolo is the city in the province of Rizal that is famous for its 'suman' and cashew nuts, which comprise its well-known festival -- SUMAKAH (suman, mangga, kasoy and hamaka). The tall and modern infrastructures in town are surrounded with green environment, which make it a perfect place to have a vacation. Listed below are some famous landmarks in Antipolo that you have to visit should you stay in this town:

ANTIPOLO CATHEDRAL

Located at the heart of Antipolo is the historical Antipolo Cathedral. The cathedral is the shrine of the famous icon -- Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. Even our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal and his family, were devotees of this icon. The cathedral was founded in 1632 with its construction completed in 1954. In 2011, the Marian image was dubbed as the "Most traveled Marian icon in the Philippines" based on historical accounts dated back during the Spanish colonization.

The church's location is accessible to all conveniences. Just outside the facade is the Victory Mall where you can shop and dine. You can find some famous cafes and restaurants like Starbucks and Razon's if you want to chill out due to the hot weather. On the other side of the church, you can find the Sumulong Park which serves as the town's activity area. You'll be lucky if you chanced on a performance or concert at the park while you enjoy some street foods on the side.

HINULUGANG TAKTAK

The famed Hinulugang Taktak of Antipolo was declared as a National Park back in 1990. Its clear waters and magnificent landscape has made it a well-known picnic site for tourists. However, like any other natural attractions that are visited by numerous travelers, the falls of Antipolo faced constant problems of environmental pollution that threatened its natural beauty. The Hinulugang Taktak was shut from public viewings and underwent rehabilitation. Thankful enough, it has regained its splendor and was reopened to public this 2015.

The Hinulugang Taktak is just some minutes away from the cathedral. There's a spacious parking area and the entrance fee is very cheap (around 8-15 pesos). There are picnic huts in the area where you can appreciate the view. Just make sure to be mindful of your trash because "clean as you go" policy is strictly observed; otherwise you'll be fined with a hefty amount of Php 500.00.

PINTO ART MUSEUM

For all the art fanatics, Pinto Art Museum is a destination that you shouldn't miss if you're going to visit Antipolo. Located at the inner streets of the city, this museum has over 5 galleries that showcase various collections of Filipino contemporary art. You can get to appreciate the art pieces for Php 180.00. Also, there's a chance that you'll be able to meet the artists in person since they visit the place from time to time.

Visiting the galleries would take at least half an hour. This could be very tiring since the museum covers a hectare of land. You can grab a snack at a restaurant near the entrance or you can cool off at the Pinto Cafe where you can enjoy a regular iced tea. The museum is open on Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 6pm.

The Antipolo City overlooking is the very last stop of every tourist before finally leaving the town. You'll be welcomed by a cool breeze and the panoramic view of Manila from afar. There are restaurants available where you can have a drink and take some selfies with this picturesque sight.

Going to Antipolo will give you an entirely different vacation where modernity of living is fused with being one with nature. Pack up your bags and go loco in Antipolo!
