Nature has its way of surprising the humankind. And the Philippines is one of the most blessed countries rich in extraordinary breathtaking landscapes -- the Tubbataha Reef in Palawan, the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, the white sand beach in Boracay, and the long list goes on. Speaking of beaches, if you think that there are only black and white sand beaches, then you haven't quite explored our country. Are you in for another surprise? -- Because nature has gifted us with a pink sand beach. And not just one, but two!
Explore the pink beaches in Zamboanga City and in Matnog, Sorsogon -- the Great Sta. Cruz Island and the Subic Beach. The two beaches may not have an original pink sand. But thanks to the red organ pipe corals being washed towards the shore, it slowly changes the sand to have a pinkish shade. And if you'll examine closely the sand in one of the beaches, you can see the small pieces of the coral being mixed with it.
These two pink beaches are both hidden paradise in their respective locations. Their beauties are just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed by us and foreign tourists. Unlike Boracay and other famous beaches in the country, you'll get to enjoy swimming and other water sports and activities in their pristine aquamarine waters due to less crowd. If you're an avid explorer, you can go sightseeing on the natural wonders that surround the beaches.
However, since the Great Sta. Cruz Island and the Subic Beach are both undeveloped beaches, there are no or less establishments available. So be ready to bring your own food and other needed supplies for the trip. The entrance fees are very cheap. The price ranges from Php 20.00 - Php 50.00*. As for your lodging, there are huts, cottages, and even hammocks available that you can rent for Php 100.00 - Php 500.00* (depending on the number of persons), or you can just go camping on the beachfront if you are on a budget. But just make sure to be responsible on your trash.
Other than swimming and other related activities, you can have a bonfire party by the shore, mingle with the locals, and share your life's stories with some s'mores. The peaceful silence at these beaches is also suitable for some soulsearching.
Don't make your travel adventures into a routine. Explore the unexplored. Changes the background of your swimming experience from black and white to pink. Jump in, and dive in pink!
