Yabu: House of Katsu
Posted by: jovy avisado ( Member ) on 2015-10-08

Whenever I eat in a Japanese restaurant and get too lazy to think of what to order, my first choice almost all the time (whenever I crave for rice... which is also almost all the time) is Katsudon.  So when I heard of the dawn of the House of Katsu back in 2012... *angels' bells ringing*

The first time I got to try this was last year in Megamall with my bestfriends. Since then, I've been a supporter of Yabu. Then my family and I were invited to the Private Tasting event for 'Yabu x SM Southmall', the first ever Yabu branch in the South. Good to hear that Yabu is now more accessible to the Southern people.

Yabu stays true to serving authentic Katsu in the country. When you get to try it, you'll experience the goodness of the freshly made thick cuts of premium pork with bright and golden fresh Panko (Japanese breadcrumbs). It takes the Japanese dining scene in the Philippines into a whole new level.

I did my research, and found out that one of the restaurant's co-owners, John Concepcion, got Yabu's inspiration from a Katsu restaurant situated under the Osaka train station. He asked Chef Kazuya Takeda, the head chef of a popular tonkatsu restaurant in Tokyo, to be generous enough to pass on his expertise in katsu to local chefs and to be Yabu's expert consultant on all things katsu.

Yabu makes sure every katsu that comes out of their kitchen is perfect. Their Yabu Promise is to gladly replace the meal or return the payment if you are not happy with the quality or flavor of the food. Now that's what you call assurance to quality. Plus, as a person who's very meticulous with quality service, I can say Yabu has a really friendly and accommodating crew (or maybe at least in the branches I've dined in to).

Recommended Meals:

Seafood mixed set (the soft-shell crab is my ultimo paborito)
Menchi
Rosu Pork Tenderloin Set
Special Hire Katsudon Set
Wakame, Superior Potato and Egg Salad, Edamame, Hiyayakko Tofu (appetizers)

And don't forget! Your Yabu experience won't be complete without doing Yabu's Grind, Pour, Mix, and Dip Sauce Ritual!

I'm not trying to hard sell it, but as quoted by my sister,"this is total food porn!"
