2016 has been a bummer for long weekend breaks because most of the holidays fell on weekends (boo!). Gladly, 2017 will be an awesome year full of long weekends and of course, travel, hooray! Before you get excited for the promo fares, know the perfect getaways for 2017 long weekends:
Holy Week (Apr. 13 – 16): Church Hopping in Cebu
Holy Week is one of the longest holidays in the Philippines. If you’re wondering where you can spend the Lenten season and enjoy a vacation at the same time, Cebu is your perfect spot. Cebu is the cradle of Philippine church and Christianity and is a famous destination for an exciting canyoneering adventure.
Labor Day (Apr. 29 – May 01): Join the Party in LaBoracay
If you’re game for a fun party, music and booze then join this biggest beach event in Boracay. But beware; LaBoracay is not for the faint-hearted and the not-so-sociable because the party comes with a BIG crowd (a sea of tourists and vacationers to be exact). Gather your travel squad and save up for the event because room accommodations and airfares can get really pricey.
Independence Day (Jun. 10 – 12): Go Underground at Puerto Princesa
If you wanted to travel this June but wary of the rainy season, Palawan is your place to be. This beautiful province is rarely hit by typhoons. You can enjoy exploring the famous Honda Bay without the usual crowd and the longest navigable Underground River. Puerto Princesa can surely keep you busy during the holiday with exciting itineraries.
Ninoy Aquino Day (Aug. 19 - 21): Catch the Kadayawan Festival in Davao
Visit Davao when it is at its liveliest – during Kadayawan Festival. Fortunately, you can catch up on this joyful event during the Ninoy Aquino Day holiday. Kadayawan is a week-long festivity scheduled on Aug. 15-21 (TBC). Shop for fresh farm products while watching the street dance. Also, don’t miss to have a taste of the famous durian fruit.
National Heroes’ Day (Aug. 26 – 28): Go on Beach-hopping in Batangas
Yup, this year’s month of August has TWO long weekends! If you’re not enthusiastic to go far away from the Metro but craving for some fresh waves, Batangas is your paradise. Batangas is blessed with impressive shorelines in various areas in the province. Laiya, Nasugbu and Anilao are just some of famous beaches. If you’re adventurous, you may go on beach-hopping during the three-day vacation.
Eid’l Adha (Sept. 1-3 *TBC): Be a Nature Lover in Bohol
The Philippines is truly a natural beauty! Take a break from the waves and spend the holiday in one of the island provinces that is rich in stunningly beautiful nature – Bohol. Be surrounded with lush greens as you enjoy an unforgettable river cruise in Loboc River. Face your fear of heights as you cross the hanging bridge in Tigbao. Explore and get wonderfully lost at the man-made forest in Bilar. Meet and greet the tarsiers. And of course, admire Bohol’s famous Chocolate Hills.
All Saints’ Day (Oct. 30 – Nov. 1): Chill in Tagaytay
After visiting your departed loved ones, take a break while experiencing a great winter-like staycation with your family in Tagaytay. Take a breather from the toxics of the Metro as you savor the amazing view of Taal Volcano.
Suggested Hotels: Taal Vista Hotel, Lake Hotel Tagaytay, View Park Hotel
Bonifacio Day (Nov. 30 – Dec. 02): Chasing the North
With the advent of Christmas season, anywhere near the Metro are getting busier and more congested with traffic. Why join the crowd if you can go to the opposite direction? Pack up your bags and go up north to Ilocos! Where nature and history collide, Ilocos is a perfect destination -- from the historical streets of Vigan, the attractive beaches in Pagudpud, to an exciting ATV adventure in Laoag.
Christmas Day (Dec. 23 – 25): Spend White Christmas in the City of Pines
Why go abroad to experience a White Christmas if you can have it in the Philippines? Baguio will surely make your dream wintery holiday come true at the Christmas Village of Baguio Country Club. Be serenaded by the carolers as you and your family play with the artificial snow rain. Just don’t forget to prep up for the chilly temperature.
Rizal Day – New Year (Dec. 30 – Jan. 01, 2018): Anywhere with your Loved Ones
You don’t remember the destination; you remember the moments. Whether you’re in Boracay or Palawan or even at the comforts of your home, anywhere is perfect as long as you’re in the company of your loved ones.
