Places to Visit When in Sagada
Story by: jovy avisado ( Member ) on 2016-10-19
Not too far from the “Summer Capital of the Philippines”, is a sleepy little town that many had described as “The Shire of Philippines” called Sagada. A cooler weather, pine trees, wintery atmosphere and a not too crowded vibe are some of its assets. The best time to visit Sagada is from November to February for it is cool and dry.

Here are some places that you should have visited on the first time you’ll be going to Sagada:

Hanging Coffins

Sagada is famous for its hanging coffins which is one of its most iconic tourist attractions. Hanging Coffins is a picture perfect sight and more realistic than any horror fictions. These hanging coffins are rooted from the old Igorot tradition of burying their loved ones that speaks highly of the tribe’s rich culture. The cadaver inside the coffins are said to be in fetal position for a highly belief that if that’s the position you enter the world, that should also be the position when you exit life.

Sumaguing and Lumiang Cave

Your Sagada trip wouldn’t be fun without trying the cave connection. Spelunking (cave exploring) both Sumaguing and Lumiang Cave takes 3-4 hours. Sumaguing cave is called “The Big Cave” for it is the largest of all the caves of Sagada. It houses a lot of amazing rock formations and narrow holes. While Lumiang Burial Cave has 200 coffins that are buried 500 years ago and is carved with lizards - this symbolizes long life and fertility.

Sagada Rice Terraces is made of small rocks piled on top of each other. This rice terraces is much smaller than the Banaue and Batad rice terraces but is as magnificent as it is. Sagada Rice Terraces are lying beautifully on the mountain sides of  Suyo, Ankileng, Balugan, Kiltepan and Bangaan which are on the way going to Bomod-ok falls.

Kiltepan Viewpoint

Kiltepan viewpoint is a famous spot for the amazing view of sunrise in Sagada which is also known as Kiltepan peak for it is the highest point in the Kilong, Tetep-an and Antadao area. Kiltepan peak is special for you can see the golden sun as it rises and the sea of clouds which are a resemblance of what you can see in Mount Pulag.  When the sun was up and the sea of cloud were gone, the rice terraces of the said villages will be seen.

Bomod-ok Falls

Bomod-ok falls, is a beautiful reward after a series of stone stairs which serves as the hiking trail.  Called as the “big falls”, it is a 200 ft high falls where its cold water cascades from a contoured cliff. It is one of Sagada’s marvelous charms. You must say that the long and tiring trek, the falls was really comforting.

It may take a long tiring drive and trek on the way going to Sagada and its natural attractions, but once you’ve seen them it’ll surely be impressive and breathtaking. So there’s no way of not visiting these amazing creations.
